-
30 attended; 25 were members and 5 guests

-
Updated AARP Membership – at the Nov general meeting, we received 9 renewals. To date we have 9 renewals and 1 new member. Out of the renewals, 5 are members of the BGC. We have grandfathered 4 members into the chapter. (Allen Beach, Marty Levine, Ricky and Irene Pasternak).
-
On the application under Things I would like to see the chapter do: I have copies of the app and will distribute to the Secretary as I don’t think surveys were received from these people.
-
Year 2024, we have a total of 55 members that have paid yearly dues, 40 of the 55 are renewals, 13 of the 55 are new members, and from responding current members of 55, 30 are members of BGC. This information for 2025 will be updated on a monthly basis at the Board Meetings.
-
Discussion was made about reaching out to other Montgomery HOAs to see if they will include an article in their next newsletter about AARP Chapter #5358 to get more members joining. BT to send an article to HOA’s asap to see if that helps garner’s interest and volunteers. BT will send Sandra an article to Sandra of what she has used.
-
A separate list of those non-members interested in AARP#5358 will be maintained and added to via the website marketing tool. Sandra to send BT a list she might have go back to 2018 or 2019 for those emails.
-
It was mentioned that AARP has a policy that someone can come to 2 meetings if they are interested.
-
Annette was willing to speak about joining AARP at the BGC if allowed.

Website report by Barbara Thomas:

Please send your content, pictures, whatever you have to add more content to the website.
-
www.aarp5358.org is our website.

Susan Wilson is doing the newsletter now. Her printer can’t do a color printout so they are sending to Staples for printing. Janet P said she would be happy to do the color printouts of the newsletter but needs the paper to be provided to her. Nancy and Claudette provided approval for their phone numbers to be listed in the newsletter (and website).
-
Susan Balridged asked Mary to discuss with the board at the meeting two things:
-
Are we willing to pay $200 for someone to sing for us? It's a small band with a fabulous 60s and 70s singer. His guitar skills are outstanding. I heard him at Homecrest House where I work part time. The majority of the board responded “NO” based on budget constraints.
-
If I arrange someone to speak from AARP on a particular subject (of which there are many), would showing them over zoom to our crowd be acceptable or must they be in person? The majority of the board responded “in person” preferred rather than ZOOM.
-
-
Mary discussed the possibility of creating a Villages functionality of calling our members to check in like Fran discussed in her talk in November. Most thought it was a good idea but a volunteer would be needed to lead and manage that task. And the consideration of liability and insurance coverage needs to be looked into to CYA the group.
-
General meeting – Friday Morning Music Club entertainment – Ham dinner from Heavenly Ham – deadlines for dinner order due to Claudette by Dec 7th.
-
Meet and Greet at BGC – needs some volunteers from 11-2:30 on Dec 14th. Mary, Annette, and Claudette volunteered to be there.
-
Chat and Chew at La Mexicana on Dec 17th at 16143 Shady Grove Rd
-
January meeting to be at IL Porto on Muddy Branch road at 11:30AM. Attendees pay for their own meals. A reminder email to be sent to members about the January meeting. There are no other January meetings. Everyone should come with their ideas for the year and calendars for their events so the year can be planned out.
-
January 3rd is deadline to register.
-
Annette is creating a calendar of all the dates for first and second Tuesdays and Chat and Chews.
-
We have an estimated group of 12 currently coming to the January meeting.
-
-
Claudette checking into Cinepolis Movie Theater for a possible 4th Tuesday (senior day at Cinepolis) to get together and watch and maybe discuss movie over a drink after the movie. (They do have seats in their lobby.)
